As for the process: as You know, reality looks amazing, all the time; I could just gape. Then I get to the point when my own laziness plain scares me... something has to be done, and the sketch just takes over. Catch: when it's done, reality looks even more amazing. It'a a rat race
shure; it's to cosy just to contemplate, and frightening to look at a white paper. My trick: I use lots of scrap paper; for oilpastels actually pieces like cut up cereal boxes are the best for yet another reason: they are finished with some sort of waterrepellent lacqeur, so when you use the brown, inner surface, the picture is protected from humidity and fungi; the thickness and stifness is right too.
